I have been collecting vintage Barbies for about 6 months and already have quite a collection! I just recieved a huge bundle of clothes and dolls from an ebayer in the usa. One of the dolls is a fashion queen, but her body is completely different from any Ive seen as she seems to be made from a softer, rubbery material. Her arms are bendy (do not hold poses) and the overall feel of the doll is very soft.
All my other 60s dolls (bubblecuts, ponys etc) have the standard hard hollow bodies and hard limbs, so I was wondering if anyone had an idea about this little lady?
Any advice or ideas would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks.
How vintage is she? I know I have 2 dolls that are made of that soft rubber like you described. Maybe you can post a picture of her up? I know one of my is DC Comic, Poison Ivy and you can pose her due to metal wiring inside but you have to bend it a lot to hold the shape. Same goes to a doll I got through Ebay but no clue of what part she's from. From what I can tell, those bodies must be newer. At least the two I have have to be reason since Poison Ivy I got back in early 2007 and the other one has a newer head mold and hair. I hope that helps some.
Hi, thanks for taking the time to message on my post!
The doll is a 1962 fashion queen, well, her head is..I dont think she is on the wrong body as her colouring is the same from head to toe. I have another fashion queen doll which is hard bodied, and have never heard or read about these 'rubbery' ones!

I do my best on this forum even though it's so dead. And just so you know, just because there's a year on the body or the head, it doesn't guarantee that it comes from that year. It just means the mold is paten in that year and they're using it. Now does it happen to be this doll? She was release in 1963 from what I can find.

Because being on the rubber body doesn't sounds right to me. They may had changed the head and body.
[attachment=30][attachment=30]Yeah thats her!!!
Heres a photo (a bit grainy as its just from my phonecam) of both my fashion queen dolls. The one on the right with the black wig is the rubbery one. Her butt markings say 1958 in roman numerals and patent pending, so even if the head is wrong for the body, the body is at latest 1962 as they changed the markings to 'patented' from then.
Comparing her to the harder bodied fashion queen (on the left with big hair!) her skintone is more creamy....
The mystery deepens!!!
Hm, you represent a very interesting case. From what I can tell, it's not the rubber body that my two dolls have. At least from what I can see. Is it possible to have a picture of her naked? I'm curious on what it looks like. But being having a butt marking, it sounds like the body is authentic and the head, too. Just that they don't belong together. From what I know, they don't really make rubber bodies for the dolls in the 60s.
